Etymology: From the Greek αλλος, allos = diverse, different, and στιγμα, stigma = stigma, alluding to the stigma with two strongly unequal lobes.

Infrafamilial position: Didymocarpoideae-Trichosporeae-Didymocarpinae (Weber et al. 2013).
Description: Perennial herbs. Stems 4-angled, densely pubescent. Leaves opposite, distant, petiolate, lamina ovate to elliptic, serrate, lower surface densely yellow glandular punctate, both surfaces puberulous. Cymes axillary; peduncle pubescent; bracteoles linear, pubescent; pedicels pubescent. Sepals 5, fused, lobes linear-lanceolate. Corolla funnel-shaped, bilabiate, lavender; upper lip 2-partite, lower lip 3-lobed. Stamens 2, inserted at middle of corolla tube; filaments slightly curved, wider at middle; anthers elliptic-globose, basifixed, connate at apex; staminodes 3, glabrous. Nectary cup-shaped. Ovary linear, puberulous; style puberulous; stigma bilobed, upper lobe small, triangular, lower lobe much larger, subtruncate. Capsule slender cylindrical, puberulous.
Chromosome number: Unknown.
Type and only species: Allostigma guangxiense W.T.Wang
Distribution: S China (Guangxi).
Ecology: Growing on limestone pavements; c. 200m.
Notes: Allostigma is very similar to Pseudochirita but differs by the axile (vs. parietal) placentation.
